Jonathan is a Project Architect at ritchie*studio. He has gained a rich experience in cultural, historical and strategic planning projects in the UK and abroad. The breadth of his experience has involved many listed buildings, as well as working within conservation, archaeological important, and environmentally sensitive areas. He has worked on new builds and within existing buildings; on projects in urban, industrial, and more rural contexts, for single and multi-headed clients. Jonathan is experienced in leading strategic planning, public, cultural, workspace and heritage projects, particularly those which offer real engagement, community and environmental benefit to future users, and is an advocate for co-engagement and co-design. Jonathan is ritchie*studio’s sustainability champion, he regularly attends industry events on climate and biodiversity challenges. He has developed the studio’s programme for improving the technical climate literacy of our staff and our route path for net zero design development going forward. He is also a visiting tutor at Liverpool University, an external professional mentor at Sheffield University and for the RIBA.

Managing Director/Publishing Director, Built Environment & Architecture Media/Architecture Today
As MD of Built Environment and Architecture Media I work with the talented and creative teams behind Architecture Today, School of Specification, RegenerativeArchitecture.org, CMA Awards and the Construction & Built Environment Marketing Network.
My track record in architecture and built environment media - and the industry more widely - spans over 30 years, continuously creating opportunities for championing and supporting our professional communities as they have grappled with the challenges and opportunities of our times.
I still relish the challenge of reinventing established media brands in response to the changing needs of our audiences and the realities of a fast-changing media landscape and have overseen the successful relaunch of The Architects’ Journal, RIBA Journal and Architecture Today as multi-media content platforms as well as notable launches such as AJ 40 Under 40, UK Architecture at MIPIM and the World Architecture Festival.
I became an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects in 2023.
I am a Director at Built Environment and Architecture Media Ltd (BEAM), which includes the operational responsibility for the Construction and Built Environment Marketing Network and the CMAs.
I have held senior publishing and journalistic roles at many leading business-to-business publications and have wide experience of managing publishing and editorial teams in many markets, including civil engineering, manufacturing, telecoms, business travel, health and logistics
My track record ranges widely outside core magazine publishing to encompass the launch and development of conferences, exhibitions, on-line offerings and awards as well as book publishing, training programmes and bespoke “networking” events for specific markets.
Following a number of years on the Board at Emap Construct, the publishing group that included AJ, Construction News and NCE, I led the launch of Emap Communications’ first global summits – World Retail Congress and World Architecture Festival. I then worked as a consultant for many companies, including two years as the Independent Chair of RIBA Journal’s Editorial Panel
As Editor of Local Government Chronicle in the 1990s I spent a year in South Africa launching a weekly national news magazine for senior local government officials at the invitation of the ANC as part of the post-Apartheid reconciliation process.
